1. Berbagi pendapat pribadi lebih terbuka, dengan lebih banyak kebebasan. Kita dapat belajar untuk mengekspresikan diri secara bebas.

2. Setiap orang memiliki nilai suara.

3. Kita dapat berbagi pengetahuan kita.

4. Blog ... sebagai namanya (log), dapat digunakan untuk menyimpan informasi yang akan berguna untuk diri sendiri dan orang lain di masa mendatang.

Contoh untuk: --

Kami melakukan banyak riset saat menulis beberapa artikel. Sebagai manusia dan alam, kita dapat melupakan sesuatu. Jadi menulis artikel tentang apa yang telah kami riset bawah, akan dapat diakses untuk diri kami dan pembaca saja. Dan ini juga akan membantu penelitian lebih lanjut untuk bekerja.

Dan kami berbagi hasil penelitian dan pembaca kami dengan mereka dan mendapatkan komentar (interaksi) dan feed back juga akan membantu dalam meningkatkan penelitian lebih lanjut bekerja.

ION aims for No.3 spot among local PC makers

Last Ramadan, I won a door prize that I really needed: A notebook computer. When I opened the box and found out it was an ION Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC), I said, "Not bad. At least it's free."

But, when I began using it, I was pleasantly surprised.

ION is a local brand. It is manufactured by Metrodata E Business (MEB), which is a subsidiary of Metrodata, one of the largest and oldest IT groups in Indonesia.

Generally, we tend to look down on locally made PCs, as they have the image of being low-cost and low-quality products.

But my experience with the UMPC did not let me down at all. It is well-built and has a Taiwan-made Via processor, a battery life that is more than two hours, a bright and sharp 10.2-inch display, a Webcam, three USB ports, a built-in WLAN and a VGA-out port.

Its audio is nothing to write home about, but at least it is there. And its style will not wow anyone, but it is perfectly functional. It is a great traveling companion -- it allowed me to write my articles, browse the Internet and check my email.

Last week, MEB launched its netbook, the ION ILight 8300DL. Why is it called a netbook instead of a UMPC? As you may recall, it is Intel's name for any mini notebook that uses its Atom processor. Thus, the 8300DL is a netbook because it runs on Intel's Atom processor -- an Intel Atom N270 processor, to be more precise.

There are several other differences, too. The 8300DL has a glossy cover with graphic art printed into the mold. The 1.6 GHz, 45 nanometer processor is also supported by an Intel 945GSE chipset.

It has a 120 GB SATA hard disk to store photo and music files and there is now integrated Bluetooth and an internal modem that people in rural areas may still need.

Strangely, the screen that Metrodata has chosen for this model is an 8.9 TFT with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600. I wish they had used a six-cell battery instead of the short-lasting three-cell.

However, if my ION UMPC serves as any indicator, the ION 8300DL should also serve its purpose and should last a long time. More importantly, it underscores the fact that we should perhaps not take local products lightly; they can be as good as any imported computer products.

During the launch, MEB, which is aiming at the No. 3 place among local PC makers next year, has recently introduced its ION Nettop 8000DJ, the desktop version of the Atom-based PC. The nettop is based on Intel Atom 230 processor. It is a different processor as it does not require power-saving features of the netbook.

With so many netbooks and nettops to choose from, we are bound to see an accelerated penetration rate of computers in Indonesia, which will mean a lot to the public as well as local industry players like Metrodata.

HP says bye to vapid designs

If all the restaurants in a food court make excellent fish soup, how can one restaurant differentiate its soup from the crowd? Can they win the competition by lowering their price?

In most cases, it is not feasible, as restaurants have to earn some profit. They have to pay their chefs, their cooks, their waiters and waitresses. They also have to pay the rent.

So, if everybody has access to the best ingredients, the freshest fish on the market and more or less the same recipe, what can be done to make one soup stand out? Well, it can be the way the soup is served. It can be the bowl that is used by the restaurant, the additional aroma of lemon leaves, etc.

Similarly, with every computer maker churning out notebooks with state-of-the-art technology nowadays, how can one vendor differentiate its products from the rest?

One way is to apply delightful design touches to the otherwise boring notebooks. That is exactly what HP has done to the latest generation of their notebooks, and it seems that they have done a great job.

The new HP notebooks were first launched at HP's Connecting Your World event in Berlin last June. Last week, HP introduced some of them to the press in Jakarta: HP Compaq Presario CQ20, CQ40 and CQ45, HP Pavilion dv4 and dv7 and the brand new line of HP HDX Premium Series 16 inch and 18.4 inch.

Frankly, in the recent past I had not found the designs of HP notebooks terribly appealing. Most were in black with some decoration here and there.

Of course, the more expensive ones had something admirable in terms of design, but they were targeted more to users with deep pockets. The new HP generation is different: Subtle design enhancements can be found across the entire range of new notebooks.

The Compaq Presario line is HP's offering for those who want affordability and good value. The Pavilion series, which range in price from US$1,000 to $2,000, have more entertainment features and have more overall capability.

The new HP HDXes, priced at $2,000 and up, are the premium notebooks that incorporate technologies we would expect from a top-class notebook.

Missing from the product launch were two premium lines, the brand new EliteBooks and the highly personalizable Voodoo lines. HP claims that the workstation-class EliteBook can achieve a full 24 hours' working time on its battery, and it demonstrates how the company is once again very serious in its R&D activities.

Also missing was the announcement of HP's fresh-from-the-oven notebook products, the HP Mini 1000 series. HP Indonesia promises the new notebooks will be brought into the country in the near future.

What is so special about HP's new generation of notebooks that has made them a pleasure to look at and use? First, there is the flushed Infinity Glass that covers the screen. HP uses a piece of glass to cover the entire TFT screen and its frame from edge to edge, making it appear as though the screen has no frame at all.

Next is the liquid metal sensation that all the keys in the keyboard have. I tried out the keyboards on the prototypes -- they only had mostly prototypes on display during the launch -- and found the keyboard was quite good for touch-typing.

Mesh imprints are also used to enhance the look of the notebooks. This results in a glossy surface that lasts quite a long time.

Actually, HP did in the past apply artistic touches to its products, but their re-emphasis on artistry pinnacled last year with a competition that it ran together with MTV. In the contest, young designers were invited to produce art for the skin of a limited edition 14-inch notebook.

Clearly, with the new focus on design, HP notebooks are no longer boring and gaudy. Even the Mini 1000 has a Vivienne Tam Edition with an art skin in bold red colors.

But this computer maker is not skimping on advanced features. For example, the Pavilions have HP ProtectSmart to protect the hard disk in case of a fall. They also have the latest Intel Centrino 2, large hard disks, lots of memory and a TV tuner.

The mid and high-end notebooks also feature discreet graphics from NVidia. If you prefer AMD ATI, the company will customize one for you. The HDX has additional features such as HP Triple Bass Subwoofer, a ScrollSmart remote control, a Blu-Ray drive -- the list can go on and on.

Earlier this year, FastCompany, one of my favorite tech and innovation magazines, put HP in its list of the world's 50 most innovative companies.

The freshness of the notebook designs provides good evidence of this. It is a much-needed accomplishment, as the company -- which ranks second after Acer in Indonesia -- has to face growing competition from other vendors such as Dell and Lenovo, who are also coming up with great notebooks with looks that please the eye.

Personal Technology: Facebook and the changing art of parties

What happens if you throw a Facebook party and nobody comes? I like Facebook. I know some other people don't, but I do. It connects me to people I otherwise would have lost touch with.

It replaces the obligatory Christmas/holiday card that maintained connections in days of yore. It anchors new connections that otherwise might have drifted off on the tide.

And it takes a lot of the hassle out of organizing parties. Just create an event, choose the people you want to come and hit send. Invitees are then able to either ignore the invitation, say they're not coming, say they are coming or say they're maybe coming.

The problem is that by arranging our social world digitally, we've also created a raft of new social niceties. I've been arranging parties on Facebook for some time now and I've noticed some distinct trends.

The first party I had to invite maybe three-quarters of the people I wanted to come via email or other channels because they weren't on Facebook. The second time around, only half of the people weren't on Facebook.

This time around I didn't really bother contacting anyone who wasn't on Facebook. I'm not sure why; perhaps because they're so out of the Facebook loop they're not going to know what we're talking about.

Or maybe I can't bear to talk to people who lead such interesting lives they don't have time to join Facebook, let alone populate it with silly links and prodding applications.

But the real trend is in the way people consider their commitments. The first time around all the people who said on Facebook that they were coming, did.

The second one, one or two didn't make it. The third time around, less than half of those people who confirmed they were coming, actually did. Of the maybes, only two did.

Now admittedly, this was in a city renowned for its appalling traffic, and on a Friday, which is never a good day to get people out. But I'm not the only person to notice this disconnect.

One guy wrote in The New York Times about how he invited 700 of his Facebook friends that he only knew online to a bar in Toronto.

Fifteen said they would come. Sixty said maybe. One actually turned up. His lesson: "definitely attending" on Facebook means "maybe" and "maybe attending" means "likely not".

What intrigues me is how quickly this has happened. First off, we've accepted the idea of friendship with people we've never met.

In short, we've created two quite different worlds for ourselves -- online and offline. And, in the case of the Toronto guy, we've learned that these are not necessarily offline friendships in the making. They're a distinct group of people who only want to know you online. They're not interested in hooking up in the real world.

Then there's the other bit. In less than a year we've developed a whole new layer of social norms. A few months back, people applied the same rules to a Facebook invite that they would to an email or physical one.

Say you're coming if you really intend to come. Say no if you can't. But that has quickly morphed into something altogether less committed.

Perhaps the problem is the "maybe attending" option. Including that, perhaps, raises the idea in the attendee's mind that others may also be less than 100 percent committed and that the organizer is expecting a few dropouts?

Or maybe it's the fact that Facebook lets people see who else has vowed to attend, or maybe attend. That gives waverers a chance to mull whether the thing is worth attending, or even worth replying to.

Who knows. I'm sure social scientists are mulling this stuff over.

I personally think that all social norms were altered irreversibly with the arrival of the cell phone and SMS. Suddenly everyone found they didn't actually need to commit to a meeting until the last minute. Until then we had relied on communications systems that were not, well, reliable.

Smoke signals, writing in chalk on walls, letters, phone calls to landlines. We'd set up our appointments and then know that getting out of them would involve disruption. We'd have had to lose a body part or two to justify bailing.

Mobile phones allowed us to sneak out of commitments, or make fresh ones, on the spur of the moment. Facebook has now taken that a step further, by institutionalizing social noncommittedness. I'm not even sure that's even a word for this. But the result is clear: By moving these things online, we've blurred the boundaries further, not only between what constitutes a friend, but what also constitutes social engagement.

Luckily for me, the non-Facebookers turned out to be a more reliable lot than the Facebookers. So the party wasn't a washout, despite a power failure.

That meant we had to repair to a Thank God It's Friday bar, which is never a good sign on a Friday. But someone brought a camera and we adopted the poses of drunken wildness. The photos were posted on Facebook, so now everyone wishes they'd come.

That's another good thing about Facebook. By moving things online we may now have friends we've never met, and real world friends who promise to attend parties they have no attention of going to. But at least we can now digitally enhance the event so that it looks like something they wished they had gone to.

N97: Nokia's second salvo to souch invasion

For a while, I thought Nokia might had lost its tight grip on global handset supremacy. All over the world, people became so excited about Apple's iPhone, and then craved RIM's BlackBerry Bold.

These two smartphones are really hard to beat. They combine advanced technologies, complete sets of features and stunning looks. It was difficult to imagine that any other handset maker would be able to come up with something that would detract our attention from these two gorgeous products.

However, during the recent Nokia World 2008 event in Barcelona two weeks ago, it was clear that Nokia, the world's top handset maker, does have what it takes to remain a winner.

Unveiled on the first day was the Nokia N97, a multimedia and social-networking smartphone that cleverly combined a QWERTY keyboard and a touch screen.

The N97 has a large, 3.5-inch wide TFT screen with the 16:9 aspect ratio and up to 16 million colors capability. This is the ratio that High Definition TV (HDTV) standard uses. In terms of pixels, the resolution of the screen is 640x360. It is a resistive rather than a capacitive touch screen.

If you slide out the keyboard at the bottom of the unit, the screen will tilt at a 35-degree angle. The double-hinge mechanism works very smoothly.

My only complaint is that the space bar on the keyboard is too small. If I were to redesign this handset, I would add a space bar along the bottom of the keyboard.

Another gripe is the placement of the navi key, which is on the left of the keypad. I think it should be on the right, like the one on the E90 and the earlier Communicators.

The home screen uses widgets, components of the graphical user interface (GUI) that allow interaction with live Web services and social networking sites. You can erase them from the screen, or add them to the screen as you like to personalize your N97.

The US$700 device has a very impressive hardware specification. The internal memory, for example, is 32 GB. Add a 16 GB microSD into the slot, and you have a total of 48 GB. Can you imagine how many songs, photos or video clips you can store on this smartphone?

The camera is five-megapixel with a dual LED flash. Its lens is a Carl-Zeiss Tessar, which is used in other handsets in the high-end Nokia N-series. The phone's battery is a large 1500 miliamps per hour (mAh). This, according to Nokia, will provide 320 minutes of talk time on a 3G network or 400 minutes on a GSM network.

It also has an Assisted GPS (aGPS) receiver, which means that you can identify your position even if only two GPS satellites are visible. This is accompanied by an electronic compass for more position accuracy. Then there are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, of course. Using all these features at the same time will require you to recharge the battery overnight, of course.

The operating system is a Symbian 60 Release 5.0 with touch interface built on top of it. The Internet-centric smartphone has been designed to make browsing easy. Using a supplied stylus and the keyboard, you can easily update your blog, upload up to 30 frames-per-second (fps) videos to YouTube or post high-resolution still images on our social-networking pages. If you cannot live without games, the N97 is N-Gage ready.

The N97 is not Nokia's first foray into the touch smartphone space. Some two months earlier the company launched the Nokia XpressMusic 5800, which also sports a touch screen interface.

As there will be a long period of time between the launch of the N97 and its actual availability on the market, I suspect that we will see a lot of improvements in the shipping product. For example, as a lot of users are expecting, Nokia may finally replace the resistive touch screen with the more touch sensitive capacitive screen.

A resistive touch screen requires the user to press it so that two layers underneath the screen touch each other and conduct electricity, while the capacitive screen just senses the electricity that comes from the fingertips.

Or, we may end up having a completely different model that is even superior in many respects. That is what Nokia has often done in the past.

Throughout the event it was also clear that Nokia is intent on using the Internet to deliver more services. Nokia's Ovi now allows you to share media, calendars, maps, games and music files.

Nanotech could mean sharper snaps

Researchers in Scotland have been given nearly half a million pounds to try to improve digital camera images.

The team, lead by scientists at the University of Glasgow, are developing small nanostructures that would be used on light detecting image sensors.

These new hi-tech chips would be used in camera equipment to produce sharper and more colourful images.

The project is being funded by a £489,234 grant from the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council.

The researchers are using a phenomenon called surface plasmon resonance, which is an effect exhibited by certain metals when light waves fall onto their surfaces.

In digital cameras, this is the metal film used on microchip image sensors - known as a CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) - that detect light waves and convert them into digital signals.

When light shines on the metal film, electrons on the surface absorb the energy of the light waves and begin oscillating, or shaking, in groups. The resultant combined waves are called plasmons, and they modify the way light is distributed around the metal. The CMOS then measures the light and assigns it a digital value which is then used to build up the bigger image.

The Scottish scientists hope to find a way of creating patterns or small nanostructures in the metal film on the CMOS. This should increase the sensitivity of the sensor and result in higher quality images.

"We'll be using nanotechnology to manipulate particles, so as to take advantage of the properties of electrons to create a new optical effect," Professor David Cumming of Glasgow University who is leading the research team.

"Digital imaging has come a long way in recent years and this project aims to further improve the ability of digital devices to produce high-quality pictures," he added.

Researchers also want to try and "tune" resonating plasmons into the same frequency as light, which could improve colour discrimination.

The project is expected to last until the middle of 2012.

Zune 'bug' fixed, says Microsoft

The glitch hit the oldest Zune music players.

The glitch that froze many older Zune music players should now have been cleared, says Microsoft.

Many owners of 30GB Zune players found that the gadget froze up on the last day of 2008, thanks to a problem with software on the device.

But, said Microsoft, players should function properly once fully charged and switched on again on 1 January.

However, some Zune owners were still reporting lingering problems with their portable player.

Disgruntled owners filled Microsoft's support forums with complaints on 31 December, searching for a solution to the problem with their player.

The glitch revolves around the fact that 2008 was a leap year and had an extra day for which software on the Zune was not prepared.

This should have been corrected on 1 January when the gadget's software consults the internal clock and gets past the missing day.

By charging the device and turning it on 1 January owners should be able to get the gadget back to normal, said Microsoft spokesman Brian Eskridge.

"It worked for me and it seems like it's working for customers," Mr Eskridge told the AP newswire. "From the limited time I've looked on the forums, it seems customers have had good success with it."

The few customers who were still reporting problems were being urged by others to let the gadget recharge fully before trying to turn it on again and see if it had been fully restored.

The glitch only hit 30GB Zune players which were the first model to be released in mid-November, 2006. Later models are unaffected.

This is often due to fear or anxiety, coupled with a refusal to take risks, or maybe the fact that they are simply happy with their situation. It is those people who are willing to take a risk, and who believe in themselves and their visions, that ultimately succeed.

You need no qualifications to be an entrepreneur. You just need a desire to be both professionally and financially free in order to get started. Once you have an idea then you can really begin to test your potential and drive yourself forward to success and your ultimate goal.

To become a successful entrepreneur is far easier than you think!

The first question you need to ask yourself is 'What is my ultimate goal?'

From the offset it is important that you have a vision or dream, no matter how big it may be. Without a vision you will have no idea where you are going, or more importantly how to get there.

Many people believe that being a successful entrepreneur is defined by making a million. Of course we would all love to have a million pounds in the bank but this should not be your priority. Financial freedom should be your focus. Whether that means you need to make a hundred thousand pounds or a million pounds, only you will know, but financial freedom has so many benefits. Not having to worry about the bills or mortgage is financial freedom in my book but this may be different in yours.

WHATEVER YOUR GOAL, IT IS ACHIEVABLE

Which of the following do you think could make you a million pounds the fastest?

- A new style of dog food to be sold in the UK;

- A new solar powered car;

- An international web-based translation service.

Most entrepreneurs would choose the web-based translation service. Why? The other two ideas would involve an enormous amount of research and development. These are 'visible' products that require face-to-face interaction with the customer in order to sell them.

The Internet-based translation service still requires development and research but has far greater potential due to the fact that it is an international product that can be sold via the Internet. Remember that the question asked 'Which one of the following could make you a million pounds the fastest?'

So what qualities do you think you need in order to become a successful entrepreneur? Take a look at the following list:

- Capable of identifying opportunities in the marketplace;

- Has to start from nothing and eventually create everything;

- Be prepared to make mistakes, learn from them and start again if the need arises;

- Be prepared to pay staff without paying themselves if necessary;

- Has to be wiser, harder and more inquisitive than in previous employment;

- Be prepared to take full responsibility for everything that happens.

The qualities identified above can all be learnt either through practice or through experience. Write down the list of qualities you believe you already have and the experience already gained in these areas. This will enable you to focus your mind on the areas you have little or no experience in. For example, if you have never had any experience in identifying opportunities in the marketplace then now is the time to begin.

When you are out and about, shopping, eating in a restaurant, at the gymnasium or at work, start to look around for opportunities. What are people doing? How do they sit at their computers? How do they shop? How do they eat whilst sat at the table in a restaurant?

I'll give you an example - I was eating in a restaurant a short while ago when a customer complained about his rocking table. We've all seen this before or even sat at a table ourselves that had one leg shorter than the rest. The waiter hurried over and folded a napkin in half before placing it underneath the shortest leg, which was causing the table to rock. To me, this is an opportunity. What if the waiter had a small purpose made wedge that could easily fit underneath the leg that was causing the problem?

There are literally thousands of opportunities out there all for the taking. All you have to do is train your mind to notice them. Remember to keep a small notebook and pencil with you or in the car so you can write your ideas down. You may go for weeks and weeks without coming up with an idea but eventually one will spring to mind that is the perfect opportunity!

Small is often best

Take a minute or two to think about your current situation. If you could think of a business idea that created you an extra £250 profit per week, would you be happy? How long would that happiness last before you wanted to expand and develop? The reason we say this is because most successful entrepreneurs start off by saying that if they could make an extra £40 per week in their spare time then they would be happy. But as soon as they reach that point they want to be more successful. Not successful in terms of how much money they could make, but in terms of how far I could take my business - and this is a good thing!

On your journey to success you should never forget where you have come from.

Don't become greedy and always remember how you felt when you achieved your first sale! That memory should stay with you forever!

There are pros and cons to having a business partner. Most people who go into business together do so for a number of reasons and these are very much dependant upon a variety of circumstances.

Yes, in an ideal world it is nice to keep 100 percent of your business and if you are running a business from home in your spare time then this is an ideal solution. However, if you are seeking financial backing and business experience you may wish to enter into a partnership with an investor. What would you rather have:

Option 1: 100 percent of your business with no financial backing.

Option 2: 40 percent of the business and an experienced business partner who invests £300,000.

With option 2 you may find that your 40 percent shares are worth a lot more than your 100 percent a few years down the line. Investment can be a good thing but it all depends on your own circumstances at the time of starting the business. Whatever investment you obtain, make sure the person who is investing is also bringing their business expertise to the table.
